Some of these poems were published on my old website.Others I wrote to get a nice round “10” for this post. Most are haikus, but there are a couple of tankas (literally, there are two). Please enjoy.

Glow-in-the-dark stars
on the ceiling, faint green shapes
radio static

New word: petrichor
The smell of rain on dry earth.
Open the window

Deep in the forest
footfalls on a bed of leaves
wolf smiles in his sleep

Blue-washed sunrise
Talking outside the hotel
Waiting for a bus
Nothing but blue dreams, you said
Dreams of pale castles

Baby, fast asleep
turns onto his side and laughs
at some private joke

Ten thousand stories
When I cannot get away
When I can write? None.

sweet chemical smell
plastic flowers in a vase
buzzing fluorescents

Fog above the lake
Plastic bottles washed ashore
Enjoy Diet Coke
Driftwood branches, crumbled rocks
Deep green shard of glass

Chain link overpass
Plastic locket, roaring cars
Blue sky, wispy clouds

Bonfires on the lake
Music floats above the waves
Laughter in the dark
